Madhu Honey is a lean company with passionate members. We believe that honey is only as good as all parties involved in the chain of production. Therefore, we work directly and in close relationship with the apiary and oversee transportation needs and warehousing ourselves. We also appoint IFS- and HACCP-certified and trusted quality packers within close proximity to where we are based. One only knows the honey if one knows the apiary, the region, and all the hands involved from source to packaging.

Manuka / Manuka myrtle / New Zealand Teatree
The Manuka myrtle (Leptospermum Scoparium), also called New Zealand Myrte or Manuka (by Māori: Mānuka), is a plant species in the family of myrten plants (Myrtaceae). It is located in the mountainous regions of New Zealand and southeastern Australia (New South Wales). Especially manuka oil and manuka honey are extracted from it.
In Europe, the possibility of a medical application of the Manuka was observed by the botanist Joseph Banks, a member of James Cook's expedition. He observed how the Maori used different components of the South Sea myrtle to cure ailments such as gastrointestinal disorders, bladder diseases, colds, skin diseases and even wounds. For this purpose, the Maori also prepared a broth, whereupon the English colloquial name tea-tree (German: Teebaum) arose.
These plants contain essential oils - Manuka oil - which act anti-inflammatory and antibacterial. Honey collected from them has shown effects against Helicobacter pylori, chronic wounds and skin infections in smaller studies and is marketed as a remedy.
